Kitchen floor and banisters!

Quick update----

Kitchen/foyer floors are in. They are laminate--but individual planks.  Yes, the floors are dirty--but you can see their hidden beauty....and the stair banisters are finally in!  Seems like that took forever.

Countdown til ownership:  11 days.  Amazing.

Friday 10/12...Grandpa Walter became our Grandpa Angel.  We love you--and think of you all the time.  What a very special person--we miss you everyday...but know you are still watching over all of us!

Let the Countdown Begin....

Ok--I know, it has been FOREVER since I last posted. And I am really sorry. Every free minute has been spent hauling kids too and from events, painting furntiure or painting at the new house. Throw in working 40 hours a week, laundry, groceries...well....anyway.

We are closing on the house on Tuesday October 23, at 4pm!
Moving in that week-with the BIG move happening on Saturday October 27.  If anyone wants to help, just let us know. We will feed you and provide beverages of choice!

Today we just found out that our apartment will be rented in November--so we won't have to "eat" rent while we are in the new house!

Now for the photos:
Corner kitchen cabinet with crown molding (all cabinets have the molding)

Wall color (Wild Honey) with stone fireplace. I love the combination of color!

 View from foyer into familyroom/dinette

Front of the house--there are still cedar shakes to stain...c'mon painters, get it done!

Fireplace. We are so happy we had the stone go up to the ceiling. We really love it.

Hallway by kitchen--color is Wheat Bread..same in the kitchen and foyer--
the wall just keeps going-. We had a professional painter paint the kitchen and foyer,
but Ann did the rest...Sarah helped as well.

 Kitchen sink!

View from kitchen window!

Driveway and patio will hopefully be in before we close...applicances/carpet in on Monday 10/15-Tuesday 10/16.  Just a lot of wrap up and lots of pieces coming together--calling the phone company, cable, etc....making sure the schools know so that the buses take the kids home (until Sarah has her license--test on 11/14!)

Be sure to check my other blog:  www.dirtybutterdesigns.blogspot.com  I am updating that tonight too.

What will we do once we are settled in the house...wait...will we ever be settled!

Love to you all!!!!

A picture is worth some granite countertops!

I will let the pictures do the talking:
Kitchen--granite countertops and all lights installed!
Check out the light over on the right--that is above the kitchen table.
I saw it online in another blog--and found it at Home Depot!
LURVE it!

Foyer light
Another Home Depot find--on clearance.
Even with shipping, it was a DEAL!

Master Bath sink (Ann's)

Tile in master bath room shower..We LOVE the colors!

Stone on the front--almost done.  It must be a very labor
intensive process...brick by brick....

Things are happening so fast!  All the lights/switchplates are on. And all the electricity is hooked up
We were there tonight and the air conditioner was on! Nice and cool upstairs, thanks to the zonal heating/cooling we upgraded to.

Stay tuned...we will update again soon!

Cabinets and paint and stone and tile

Quick post...
Kitchen cabinets are in--the whole house is painted white...the ceramic tile is delivered..and the house is locked, because the "good stuff" is in now!

Collin's room is a nice shade of tan.
Sarah has 2 walls that are a pretty pink.
We have the paint for our bedroom, but it may be too blue, and not quite gray enough. We will have to see.
Here are the photos:
Sarah's pink walls--just those two, the other walls are white--
should be a nice contrast with her bedding set.

The first part of the stone--what a nice color match and combo.
Can't wait to see the rest of it up on the porch!

Kitchen cabinets--there will be crown molding on the top.
The color is so pretty!
Island (La Isla) is so great. I love the shelf on the end.
A place to put "pretties"!

Paint?

Hello all...
Just a quick update
Today the texture was sprayed on the walls.  Thursday/Friday will be the primer and paint spray (just an off white everywhere).
Next week, the carpenter comes in and the trim, floors, doors, cabinets, etc will be installed.

A small window for us to paint a few rooms.
Sarah's bedroom, Collin's bedroom and maybe our bedroom.
Looks good on paper--
However, this weekend, me (Ann) and my Mom are driving to Erie PA to attend my Mom's God Daughter's wedding. We are leaving on Friday, returning on Sunday.
Labor Day weekend, Ann is flying to Memphis to visit dear friends...(without Wally/kids...)
I will be gone Friday 8/31-Tuesday 9/4.
Guess we (I) will be painting during the week after work....can't wait!  I love to paint! (Seriously)

About 8 weeks out from moving in..hard to believe, the time is going by so fast!

Days of Drywall

These  photos are a few days old--mudding and taping is finishing as I type this. Should be spraying early next week--and then they will paint (off white).  We hope to get in and paint the kids' bedrooms and maybe the study--but I am not ready to committ to paint colors quite yet. We want to live in the house--see the furniture pull together, etc.

We bought our new kitchen table (top looks like reclaimed wood..and a nice light color) and the chairs are black--awesome contrast! We also bought our new leather sectional for the family room (a light carmel color) and our new King size mattress--I may never leave that bed!

Just a few photos--more to come:

The Installation of Insulation

Say that title 3 times....installation of insulation...installation of insulation...installation of insulation--means drywall must be near!

We went to the house hoping to see the siding done (it is about 80% done) and were surprised to see plastic on the windows--and about 75% of the insulation!!!

Here are some photos:

This is the family room--fireplace on the left

Collin's room--he is so excited about the corner windows!

Sarah's room--her window faces south

Our room--check the trey ceiling!  And yes, that is Wally, trying to get out of the picture!

Siding above the garage

So gorgeous with the blue sky!

So--we are getting there--we are over 1/2 way done--still targeting mid October--the builder said final walk through is usually 8 weeks from drywall.....while apartment life is good, house life will be better!

Keep coming back for more posts!

Beautfiul Trim....

All the trim is on--all the windows are in (2 are broken..and will be replaced). Siding is started--the color is the color of wheat--golden (ironic, as I can't eat wheat...but whatever...lol!)  So beautiful.

Thanks Diane and Brian for coming to see the house it was fun to give you the tour!

Here are the photos from tonights house visit:

Front of the house with the trim

The front porch--I LOVE the brown trim...

The first siding is up...so pretty! We love the contrast!

Close up of the back...love it!

More pictures to come..as we have them...

Concrete and basements and framing, Oh MY!

Basement floor was poured on Friday--the porch/garage was poured on Monday--the basement was framed today.  It is so great to be able to walk down the stairs and SEE the basement...and the walls, and where the office will be, and the bathroom and the storage....so awesome!
Also, the trim on the house is just goregous---I love it so much...the siding has to wait until the windows are switched out--and when the siding and the trim come together--it will be magical, I promise! Here are some photos from this evening:
Basement living room

Door to the office, to the left is the full bathroom

Front porch--I see some comfy chairs out there-and a nice cool drink...

Garage--2 car on the right, one car on the left..storage...and lots of it!

So pretty!  Just loving it! The cedar shakes will be stained a dark taupe, the siding is creamy-bisque and the stone (on the front of the porch, front door) pulls all the colors together.  Dreamy.....

Quick update--no photos today. Sorry.
So, we go to the house on Tuesday--the windows are in!
The windows are TAN, they are supposed to be WHITE!

After a brief panic attack followed by a heart attack...and then calming words from Wally, we went to the apartment to check our records. Sure enough, the windows are to be WHITE..so we call the expeditor and as of this morning.. all is right with the world.

The white windows are ordered and should be there in a week or so. The siding is at the house--but they won't put it up until the right windows are on.

Basement should be poured either today or Friday--and then next week all the trade guys (carpenter, plumber and electrician) come back to work in the basement (as the basement will be fully finished).

We shouldn't be held up at all by any of this.  What a relief...the tan windows would not look right with the color of siding that we have ( a creamy light tan-bisque-color--you have to see it to LOVE it!)

The furniture staining is going well--I am almost done with the tall dresser--really wasn't too hard--I used GEL STAIN and a rub on poly coat--it is gorgeous!  The hardware is pretty, but it is nicked up, so I need to spray paint that--hopefully tonight.

Stay tuned...we may post photos of the windows, even though they are wrong!!!

HUGS!

Family Thrift Day

Ok--so you may or may not know--but I am a huge fan of BLOGS...you can find information on  just about anything out there--and I have been wanting to paint some furniture--but I wasn't sure how--until now.  I have a orbital sander....thanks Wally!...and the painting starts tomorrow--just a few small things--and if I mess up, it won't be too much lost.  So, wish me luck!

Here are a few things we picked up today, thanks to Craig's List (LOVE IT) and the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store (LOVE IT).  GREAT prices on some beautiful pieces, that need just a little bit of TLC...and let me tell you, beautiful pieces, I have all kinds of TLC for you...sander...primer...paint or stain...pretty hardware....can't wait!
This bench was salvaged from an old building in downtown Milwaukee--some sanding, some light stain--it will be beautiful in our foyer!

This dresser is amazing--pretty good shape..the hardware is original and is so beautiful. Good construction--dovetail drawers, solid wood, etc. The man we bought it from said it dates to probably the 1940s..and we have the vanity to match (see below)

I don't know why I love this table--but for $7 at the Habitat Restore how could I resist?  I see a coat of sunflower yellow---or maybe red in the future for this gem!

The vanity!  The mirror is over on the side, it is round, and it is HUGE and it is heavy--the vanity (like the dresser) is in great shape--and there is a little bench as well (not pictured).  Incredible stuff, don't you think?  Stay tuned for the after pictures--but those won't be for a while. I am not trying anything on these pieces yet--I have some other things to practice on..but I am too tired to photograph them now

House updates?  Believe it or not, we haven't been there since THURSDAY!  Maybe later tonight!  hahahaha

lamps--please envision with a coat of spray paint--satin nickel or bronze?

40 pulls for the cabinets...$20.

8 for $2--not sure what they will be used for, but they are gorgeous!

$1--it called to me...oh little orange poppy needlepoint!

For Collin's room!  We are going to hardwire it!!!!

OK--of to make dinner now...starving!
