Concrete and basements and framing, Oh MY!

Basement floor was poured on Friday--the porch/garage was poured on Monday--the basement was framed today.  It is so great to be able to walk down the stairs and SEE the basement...and the walls, and where the office will be, and the bathroom and the storage....so awesome!
Also, the trim on the house is just goregous---I love it so much...the siding has to wait until the windows are switched out--and when the siding and the trim come together--it will be magical, I promise! Here are some photos from this evening:
Basement living room

Door to the office, to the left is the full bathroom

Front porch--I see some comfy chairs out there-and a nice cool drink...

Garage--2 car on the right, one car on the left..storage...and lots of it!

So pretty!  Just loving it! The cedar shakes will be stained a dark taupe, the siding is creamy-bisque and the stone (on the front of the porch, front door) pulls all the colors together.  Dreamy.....

Quick update--no photos today. Sorry.
So, we go to the house on Tuesday--the windows are in!
The windows are TAN, they are supposed to be WHITE!

After a brief panic attack followed by a heart attack...and then calming words from Wally, we went to the apartment to check our records. Sure enough, the windows are to be WHITE..so we call the expeditor and as of this morning.. all is right with the world.

The white windows are ordered and should be there in a week or so. The siding is at the house--but they won't put it up until the right windows are on.

Basement should be poured either today or Friday--and then next week all the trade guys (carpenter, plumber and electrician) come back to work in the basement (as the basement will be fully finished).

We shouldn't be held up at all by any of this.  What a relief...the tan windows would not look right with the color of siding that we have ( a creamy light tan-bisque-color--you have to see it to LOVE it!)

The furniture staining is going well--I am almost done with the tall dresser--really wasn't too hard--I used GEL STAIN and a rub on poly coat--it is gorgeous!  The hardware is pretty, but it is nicked up, so I need to spray paint that--hopefully tonight.

Stay tuned...we may post photos of the windows, even though they are wrong!!!

HUGS!

Family Thrift Day

Ok--so you may or may not know--but I am a huge fan of BLOGS...you can find information on  just about anything out there--and I have been wanting to paint some furniture--but I wasn't sure how--until now.  I have a orbital sander....thanks Wally!...and the painting starts tomorrow--just a few small things--and if I mess up, it won't be too much lost.  So, wish me luck!

Here are a few things we picked up today, thanks to Craig's List (LOVE IT) and the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store (LOVE IT).  GREAT prices on some beautiful pieces, that need just a little bit of TLC...and let me tell you, beautiful pieces, I have all kinds of TLC for you...sander...primer...paint or stain...pretty hardware....can't wait!
This bench was salvaged from an old building in downtown Milwaukee--some sanding, some light stain--it will be beautiful in our foyer!

This dresser is amazing--pretty good shape..the hardware is original and is so beautiful. Good construction--dovetail drawers, solid wood, etc. The man we bought it from said it dates to probably the 1940s..and we have the vanity to match (see below)

I don't know why I love this table--but for $7 at the Habitat Restore how could I resist?  I see a coat of sunflower yellow---or maybe red in the future for this gem!

The vanity!  The mirror is over on the side, it is round, and it is HUGE and it is heavy--the vanity (like the dresser) is in great shape--and there is a little bench as well (not pictured).  Incredible stuff, don't you think?  Stay tuned for the after pictures--but those won't be for a while. I am not trying anything on these pieces yet--I have some other things to practice on..but I am too tired to photograph them now

House updates?  Believe it or not, we haven't been there since THURSDAY!  Maybe later tonight!  hahahaha

lamps--please envision with a coat of spray paint--satin nickel or bronze?

40 pulls for the cabinets...$20.

8 for $2--not sure what they will be used for, but they are gorgeous!

$1--it called to me...oh little orange poppy needlepoint!

For Collin's room!  We are going to hardwire it!!!!

OK--of to make dinner now...starving!

It's electric--boogie woogie woogie!

Week of July 9--we have lots of wire and some plumbing..and a laundry chute..
Thanks Shirley and Matthew for coming to see the house (and the apartment!) on one of the hottest 4th of July Holidays on record!

The East Side of the house--windows going up the steps--top window is one of the corner windows in Collin's  room.

Electric Box!

Direct Vent Fire place--we will have beautiful stone all the way up to the ceiling, and a raised hearth.
Shingles!

Laundry Chute in the master bedroom walk in closet--it drops into the closet in the laundry room.
(We took that idea from Mark and JoAnn's house!)

Wires, wires everywhere!

hey! That's not the house--that is eatin' oysters in Charleston. YUMMY

The 1,000 year old oak tree in Charleston, SC
The colors--top: siding, middle: trim, bottom: stone so pretty!

Beachin' it!

I don't think we are heading to the house tonight--we need a quiet evening. Sarah lived through UW-Whitewater tennis camp--it was HOT--but the coaches kept the kids hydrated and let them rest in between--she made lots of friends. Collin is gearing up for football--he starts some of his training camps the week of July 23.  In other plans, we are going to see Rascal Flatts on the 28th of July--we all love them so--and are looking forward to the show in Chicago!

Extreme Heat and Extreme Houses!

It is so awesome when blueprints come to life!  To be able to walk through our home--although only studs...is amazing.  The framing went so fast...most of it happened when we were in South Carolina on vacation.  Lots of pictures to post here...if you want to tour the house, feel free--and let us know, we can meet you there. If you need directions, email us.

Probably no work tomorrow, Independence Day!! However, the heating/cooling team will be there on Thursday.  Lots of duct work in the house ready to be put in!
